Overview
Web Notes does not collect, transmit, or process any personal data. All data is stored exclusively locally on your device via the Chrome Storage API. No data is sent to external servers.
Locally Stored Data
The following data is stored exclusively on your device via chrome.storage.local:
- Note content — The text you write
- Metadata — Position, size, color, timestamps
- Page URLs — URLs of pages where you created notes
- Settings — Default color, font size, opacity
This data never leaves your device. We have no access to it.
Legal Basis (Art. 6 GDPR)
Since we do not collect or process any personal data, no legal basis for data processing is required. All data processing occurs locally on your device under your own control.
No Data Collection
- No personal data is collected or processed
- No data is transmitted to external servers
- No analytics, tracking, or telemetry services are used
- No cookies are set
- No third-party services are integrated
- No advertisements are displayed
Browser Permissions
The extension requires the following Chrome permissions:
- storage — Store notes locally in Chrome storage
- tabs — Detect current page URL to display your notes
- contextMenus — Show "Add Note Here" in the context menu
Your Rights (Art. 15–21 GDPR)
Under GDPR, you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection. Since we do not store any of your data, you can exercise these rights directly on your device:
- Access & Data Portability — Export all notes as JSON via settings
- Rectification — Edit any note at any time
- Erasure — Delete individual or all notes via settings
- Complete Removal — Uninstalling the extension deletes all stored data
Changes to This Policy
This privacy policy may be updated with future extension updates. Changes will be noted in the extension's changelog.
Web Notes operates entirely locally. No data is collected, transmitted, or stored on external servers. Your notes stay on your device.

The extension is provided "as is" without any warranty. We are not liable for damages arising from the use of this extension, including data loss.
All notes are stored locally on the user's device. We have no access to user data and cannot recover lost notes. Users are responsible for creating their own backups.

We are not willing or obligated to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
